Microscopy Technician (Fluorescence & Electron Microscopy)
Are you an experienced microscopy specialist ready to expand your expertise in electron and fluorescence microscopy? The Cell Microscopy Core (CMC) at UMC Utrecht invites you to join our dynamic imaging facility!
You will support (live-cell) fluorescence microscopy workflows, while developing expertise in electron microscopy (EM) techniques. You will operate and train users on high-end fluorescence and electron microscopy platforms, training and assisting users in these methods, and driving innovations in correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM).
You will collaborate closely with researchers and core staff to implement and innovate multi-scale imaging workflows to answer complex biological questions.
Although prior electron microscopy expertise is a plus, it is not required—we welcome candidates eager to develop their EM skills via intensive training.
Responsibilities
We Offer
The Cell Microscopy Core at UMC Utrecht is an expertise center for microscopy at the subcellular, cellular and tissue level. CMC provides advanced imaging services combining fluorescence, live-cell, and electron microscopy techniques. CMC is internationally renowned for immuno-electron microscopy (immunogold labeling of Tokuyasu cryosections) and correlative light-electron microscopy (CLEM) methods. These methods uniquely allow the study of molecules. Current innovations focus on volume-EM and multi-modal technologies.
CMC is ratified as the CLEM node within the national Roadmap projects Netherlands Electron Microscopy Infrastructure (NEMI) and NL-BioImaging, as well as the European ESFRI project EuroBioImaging.
Our mission is to enable researchers with innovative microscopy approaches that reveal cellular processes at the nanoscale, within the ultrastructural context of the cell. Learn more at cellmicroscopy.nl and research.umcutrecht.nl.
